Artist Statement: This sculpture is made entirely of paper straws, using a repeating leaf form as its basic unit. Shaped like fire, it represents the linear progression of time: leaves transform into fire, where leaves embody the past of fire and fire represents their future.

Artist Statement: This piece was inspired by a fox hunt. There are two hunters, each of them holding chains attached to dogs running towards a fox who has nowhere to go. The fox is trapped. He is only seen as a prize, an innocent animal that will suffer for entertainment. The dogs and hunter were sawed from copper metal, the fox from bronze metal, The chain is 22ga and the clasp is 20ga, both are copper wire.

When my Dad brought home left-over burlap coffee bags, I got right to work.

Artist Statement: My piece is a figure singing one of my favorite songs, from my favorite show Over the Garden Wall. It is done with cut paper and other mixed media like colored pencils and fine liners, made using stop motion animation. The figure warns of “a beast” that will ensure that no one who encounters it will return home.

Artist Statement: This set was slab built and hand carved. When it was bone dry, I added terra sigillata to get a shine. It was aluminum foil saggar fired. The colors came from combustible items such as ferric chloride, sugar, banana peel and sea weed.

Artist Statement: This mixed media of a boat was from a boat ride to Naushon Island to learn about the Battle of Falmouth. The boat itself is three dimensional and made of paper board. The trees along the horizon were painstakingly embroidered with various shades of green. To make the piece more three dimensional, cardboard was layered and used to create the texture of waves, enhanced with watered down acrylic.

Artist Statement: My school hosted a wild life presentation which a sanctuary brought by birds of prey among other animals which they had there. I had the fortune of seeing sone of their birds, a red tail hawk in specific. I created a piece depicting the bird in particular as I had found the patterns on the feathers and general appearance to be very visually appealing.

The geometric honeycomb pattern is hand-cut to allow light to illuminate the delicate translucency of the clay, mimicking the warmth of a glowing hive. Sculpted bees, suspended on high-temp wire, add movement and life to the piece, celebrating the industrious and essential nature of an active, thriving colony.

I integrated wheel-throwing and slab-building to create the form, which was further altered with molds for a unique form. Sgraffito imagery captures the migration’s energy, using precise carving to contrast the fluid movement of fish in rushing waters with the surrounding wildlife.

Artist Statement: The baobab tree, often called the “Tree of Life,” is known for its massive water-storing trunk and resilience. This clay baobab was constructed using slab-building, with extruding and molds used to alter and extend the form. Extruded cylinders form the branches, while frayed jute twine at the tips adds texture and movement, reflecting the baobab’s strength, adaptability, and endurance.

Artist Statement: Throughout myth Wyverns are great beasts swooping down to hunt their helpless prey, akin to dark shadows on crimson wings. My creation, Sir Flappy, seems to balance precariously on fragile wings, evoking the fear of the aforementioned prey. If Sir Flappy were to dive to his death, over a hundred hours of effort would smash to pieces with the finality of the Sword of Damocles finally falling.

Artist Statement: My piece is inspired by Vince Ballentine’s art for the album 'The Low End Theory', by a Tribe Called Quest. 'The Low End Theory' was produced with a focus on isolating bass lines and low frequencies, the foundation of the hip-hop groove.The album was first introduced to me by my parents when I began hip-hop dancing, which fostered my love for 90’s hip hop and dancing in general.

Though there really isn’t much interesting about the train, and to mention thousands of people use it on the daily to transport, it being the Green line of course, I found it really cool to see it up close.
